The Prince Charles Hospital wanted to future proof and upgrade 14 ICU (Intensive Care Unit) bays with new ceiling pendants, room lights, gas lines and electrical and communications equipment.
The client brief
The Prince Charles Hospital requested a major equipment upgrade for its Intensive Care bays to meet current standards and address the new needs of the clinical staff. The project involved the complexity of taking place in a live environment, a challenge that MDI is well-positioned to manage. The MDI design and installation team are equipped to work flexibly alongside other trades, ensuring tight timeframes are met due to the high occupancy levels of the ICU.

- Tight timeline from brief to installation – 3 days for single bays and 5 days for double bays.
Our proposal
We proposed to the client a custom head tandem pendant with an integrated examination light. Additionally, we recommended a shorter console on the dry arm to accommodate a ventilator trolley underneath. Lastly, to assist the clinical staff, we suggested installing a new foot pendant counterbalance system, enabling parking at any height.
